Gala's thin-wall busbar sleeve (GSC series, part of the BUSSLEEVE range) is the economical choice for insulating busbars in low-voltage switchboards, MCCs, PCCs, distribution boards and bus ducts. The sleeve is a thin cross-linked polyolefin tube supplied expanded. Slid over a copper or aluminium bar and heated, it shrinks down to follow the bar closely, giving a continuous insulating jacket that guards against accidental contact and flash-over between closely spaced bars and protects the copper from corrosion.
It is supplied in phase colours (the catalogue shows yellow, red and blue reels), so the same sleeve that insulates the bar also marks the phase. Twelve sizes cover rectangular bars from 16 to 236 mm (width plus thickness) and round bars from 12 to 150 mm; sizes up to 20/10 come on 100 m reels, larger sizes on 50 m or 25 m reels.
Choose the size from the busbar dimensions: add the bar's width and thickness and pick the size whose W+B range contains that figure. Fitting is by torch or oven. With a torch, preheat the bar, slide the sleeve into position and shrink it from one end. In an air-circulating oven, 120 to 150 deg C for about 10 to 15 minutes is typical, never less than 5. Trim the ends and punch holes only after the bar has cooled.
The GSC material is a UL Recognized Component (file E328193).
