Switchgear cabinets and outdoor structures often have less clearance between phases, or between a live part and the structure, than the designer would like. Contaminants, moisture and animals can then cause inter-phase flashovers. Gala's Barrier Board Sheet (code GBBS) is a non-shrinkable polyolefin sheet installed as an insulating barrier in those places: between phases inside switchgear, and on the underside of structures where clearance is reduced.

The sheet is tough, resists mechanical impact and everyday wear, and is easily fabricated into shape. It can be cut and drilled for mounting with ordinary tools, without special equipment. The material is track and erosion resistant, resists chemicals, solvents, alkalis and salt, and is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Five grades are offered: 2.0, 3.0 and 5.0 mm thick in 670 mm width (GBBS-2, GBBS-3, GBBS-5) and 3.0 and 5.0 mm thick in 970 mm width (GBBS-3A, GBBS-5A), each in 15 m lengths. On Gala's sheet the material is rated for continuous use from -45 deg C to +105 deg C; Gala gives its mechanical and electrical values as typical laboratory values, not specification limits.
