About Heat Shrink Conductive End Cap for Unused Cable Ends (GCEC)

A cable that is laid but not in use often runs beside live cables. The electric field of the live cables induces a potential in the unused one. Gala's conductive end cap is meant for the ends of such cables.

The cap is a closed-end moulding of cross-linked semi-conductive polyolefin, lined with hot-melt adhesive and with conductive mastic at its closed end. According to Gala, the conductive cap and the mastic inside it neutralise the potential induced in the unused cable. At the same time the cap does the job of a normal end cap: the adhesive seals irregular cable sheaths permanently and keeps water and moisture out.

Fitting is the same as for any heat-shrink end cap: clean and degrease the cable end, push the cap over it and shrink it with a gas torch from the closed end towards the cable until adhesive shows at the open end. Earthing of the cable and cap depends on your system, and Gala can advise on request.

Forty-one sizes, matching Gala's INSULCAP range, cover cable outside diameters from 2.5 mm to 460 mm, most in a standard and a long version. Guaranteed material values include a minimum tensile strength of 12 N/mm2, minimum elongation of 300 %, hardness of 45 +/- 10 Shore D and maximum water absorption of 0.2 %.
