Telecommunication cables kept under internal air or gas pressure need end caps that seal tight and still give a way to pressurise the cable. Gala's end cap with pressure valve does both.

The cap is moulded from cross-linked rigid polyolefin, glossy black, with a hot-melt adhesive lining and a brass tyre-type valve stem at its closed tip. It is shrunk onto the cable end (shrink temperature 125 deg C), where the adhesive seals irregular sheaths permanently. Pressure is then applied to the cable through the valve, and the cap holds it, keeping moisture and contamination out. It suits XLPE, PVC, PILC and rubber-sheathed cables.

Gala rates the cap for constant internal pressure up to 2 bar and service temperatures up to 70 deg C. The cap material has a minimum tensile strength of 15 N/mm2 and a minimum elongation of 400 %, a hardness of 55 +/- 10 Shore D and a continuous material temperature limit of -40 to +100 deg C.
