Insulators and bushings in polluted locations, near the coast, around industry and cement plants, or where birds foul the sheds, build up a conductive surface layer. In fog, dew or light rain, leakage current flows across that layer and can end in a pollution flashover and an outage. Washing or replacing the insulators is costly.
Gala's high voltage wraparound creepage extender is a split, ring-shaped skirt that is opened, wrapped around an existing insulator or bushing and seated on one of its sheds. It seals to the porcelain or glass and drives leakage current out around its wider skirt edge, adding creepage distance and easing electrical stress on the original shed without taking the insulator out of service for replacement. Several extenders can be fitted on one insulator.
The extenders are made from a UV-stable, track-resistant cross-linked polyolefin in red. The standard range covers inner diameters from 110 mm to 372 mm, and each size is defined by its inner diameter (D1), collar diameter (D2) and skirt diameter (D3). Other sizes can be developed against order.
