Corrugated HDPE pipe is laid in long runs for water management, irrigation, sewerage, storm drainage, mining and underground cable protection, and every joint has to stay tight in the ground. Gala's Heat Shrink Coupler joins two pipe ends with a heat-shrunk sleeve instead of butt welding, snap-fit couplers or split couplers.
The coupler is a cross-linked polyolefin tube lined with hot-melt adhesive. Positioned over the joint and heated, it shrinks onto both pipe ends and the adhesive melts into the corrugations, giving an in-line, sealed connection. It resists impact and abrasion, works in wet or dry underground conditions, and its elastic recovery lets it follow irregular contours. A wide shrink range means a few stocked sizes cover many pipe diameters.
Installation needs no special skill or equipment beyond a gas torch. Cut the pipe ends square, clean and degrease them, slide the coupler over the joint, then shrink it with a propane torch from the centre towards both edges until adhesive appears at the ends, and let it cool. Two people are recommended on the larger sizes.
Seventeen sizes run from 70/22 to 863/250: the first figure is the minimum inside diameter as supplied, the second the maximum inside diameter after recovery. Custom dimensions, lengths and colours can be made on request.
