About Heat Shrink Stress Control Tube for Cable Terminations (GVOT)

Where a cable's semi-conductive screen is cut back at a termination, the electric field concentrates at the screen edge. Without control, that stress leads to discharge, tracking and early failure. GVOT is Gala's heat-shrinkable tube with an integrated stress-control system: a single sleeve that both grades the electrical stress at the screen cut and covers the cable insulation, with a sealant that gives a moisture-proof environmental seal.

Because stress control and the outer tube come as one component, a termination needs fewer parts and is quicker and simpler to install. GVOT is normally used as an integral part of Gala heat-shrink cable terminations for voltages up to 24 kV, where it runs from near the lug down over the cable insulation towards the screen wires. It is aimed at locations with harsh environmental conditions and high electrical stress, where it helps protect the cable surface against erosion caused by leakage current.

Six sizes run from GVOT 30/15 to GVOT 85/42, with recovered walls of 2.3 to 2.8 mm. The first figure is the minimum inside diameter as supplied, the second the maximum inside diameter after recovery. The outer tube is orange-red with a pale inner stress-control layer. It is shrunk with a gas torch as part of the termination build-up; the shrink temperature is 125 deg C.

Manufactured by Gala in India. Datasheet and size selection on request.
