About Thin Wall Heat Shrink Tube 2:1 Commercial Grade (GLC)

GLC is Gala's commercial-grade thin-wall heat-shrink tube. It is a flexible polyolefin tube with a 2:1 shrink ratio: when heated it recovers to half its supplied diameter and grips the wire, terminal, component or busbar underneath, giving electrical insulation and mechanical protection in one step.

Typical uses are light-duty wire harnessing in electrical and electronic equipment, insulating and protecting in-line components, strain relief where wires meet terminals, and insulating busbars in switchgear. Gala rates GLC for electrical insulation up to 3.3 kV.

Seventeen sizes run from GLC 6.0/3.0 to GLC 100/50.0. The code gives the minimum supplied inside diameter and the maximum recovered inside diameter in mm, and recovered walls run from 0.56 mm on the small sizes to 1.27 mm on the large ones. To choose a size, the supplied diameter must pass over the largest part of the job and the recovered diameter must be smaller than the smallest part. Tube is supplied on spools (100 m for sizes up to 20 mm, 50 m and 25 m above that) or in boxes of 1.2 m cut lengths. The standard colour is black. Shrink with a hot-air tool or a gentle torch flame.

GLC is the general commercial grade. Where a flame-rated tube is specified, Gala's GSC thin-wall tube is listed separately.
