About Heat Shrinkable Cable Gland / Cable Entry Seal (GHSG)

The Gala heat shrinkable gland seals the point where a power or control cable passes through the wall of a junction box, connection box, panel, bulkhead or sealed cabinet. It replaces a compression gland with a part that grips the cable sheath along its length and bonds to it.

Each gland has a moulded cross-linked polyolefin part lined with factory-applied hot-melt adhesive, an O-ring and a threaded lock nut. The threaded body goes through the panel hole from outside, the O-ring sits between flange and panel, and the nut is tightened from inside. The cable is then passed through and the moulded part is shrunk onto the sheath with a hot-air gun or a propane torch, heating from the cable side and never on the nut. The adhesive melts and seals to the cable jacket, giving a watertight and fume-tight entry with strain relief.

Five sizes cover cable outside diameters from 5 mm to 67 mm. Gala's catalogue rates the gland for 600 V and for pressure sealing up to 25 psi; carbon black in the material gives weathering and UV protection. The guaranteed material values are a tensile strength of 12 N/mm2 minimum, 350 % minimum elongation and a continuous temperature limit of -40 to +110 deg C.

Typical uses are cable entries on outdoor junction boxes, control panels, instrument enclosures, equipment housings and bulkheads, wherever water, dust or fumes must be kept out of the enclosure. Gala is an ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified manufacturer.
