INSULCOVER is Gala's wrap-around overhead line cover. It is an extruded profile of non-tracking, cross-linked polyolefin with a receptacle, an arrow and a creepage extender that snap together around the conductor. It adds insulation to an existing bare conductor without replacing the conductor or adding line hardware, so a utility can treat only the spans that cause trouble: spans through trees, near substations and across wildlife corridors where birds, squirrels and other animals bridge the phases.
The cover is fitted with a greased roller hand tool that clamps onto the conductor and stays in one place while the cover is fed through it and zipped shut; the installer slides the cover one way and the tool the other. Each end is locked with a UV-stable cable tie, drainage holes are punched at the low point of the span, and vertical droppers can be covered the same way. The largest size, GOC 4, comes with sealing mastic in its receptacle.
Five sizes cover conductors from 10 mm to 38 mm diameter, up to 800 sq mm, each supplied in 30 m rolls. The material is UV stabilised and weather resistant, stays flexible at -40 deg C, works continuously from -45 deg C to +105 deg C, resists acid, alkali and salt, and has passed an inclined-plane tracking test (ASTM D2303, 3.25 kV, ERDA 2018, against a 25 mm criterion).
Manufactured by Gala in India. Datasheet and size selection on request.
