Gala's overhead line tube is a non-tracking polyolefin tube that sleeves a bare overhead conductor, jumper or dropper and gives it a layer of insulation. Distribution lines fail when tree branches, birds, squirrels and other wildlife bridge the gap between phases or between a phase and earth; an insulated conductor does not flash over when that happens, which cuts outages and protects the animals as well.
The tube is made in two wall grades. GOT-M has a 1.0 mm wall and is catalogued for systems up to 11 kV; GOT-H has a 2.5 mm wall and is catalogued for systems up to 33 kV. Both come with a minimum internal diameter of 18, 25 or 35 mm, the wall held to within 10 %, and both are supplied in 50 m rolls. The material is UV stabilised and weather resistant, resists tracking and erosion, protects the conductor from acid, alkali and salt, and works continuously from -40 deg C to +105 deg C.
Utilities and line contractors use it on distribution lines, substation jumpers and droppers, and spans near trees or through wildlife areas. Gala advises the right size and installation method for the conductor at enquiry.
