Gala's solder sleeve makes a finished wire splice in a single heating step. Each sleeve has three parts: a transparent heat-shrinkable polyolefin sleeve, a tin solder ring in the middle, and a thermoplastic heat-shrinkable sealing ring at each end. With the stripped wire ends placed inside so the joint sits under the solder ring, heating shrinks the sleeve, melts the solder into the joint and melts the end rings to seal it. One step connects, solders, insulates and waterproofs the splice, and the clear sleeve lets the fitter see that the solder has flowed properly.
GSF states a 2:1 shrink ratio, strong resistance to fuels, water and cleaning solvents, and good rub resistance.
Two temperature grades are offered. GSS-125 starts shrinking at 85 deg C and is rated for -55 deg C to +125 deg C, in eight sizes. GSS-150 has an initial shrink temperature of 135 deg C and is rated for -55 deg C to +150 deg C, in nine sizes including a large -230 size for cable up to 107 sq mm (4/0 AWG). Sizes are colour coded and packed in bags of 100, 50, 25 or 10 pieces, with a minimum order of 1000 pieces per size.
To choose a size, match the wire bundle to the conductor diameter range in the size table.
