About Cable Terminal Protector for Transformers - Straight and Right Angle (GSTB / GRTB)

Gala's cable terminal protector is an insulating barrier system that fits over any indoor or outdoor cable termination where it is bolted to a bushing. It gives phase-to-phase and phase-to-earth insulation in places where terminations have to be installed close together: motor terminal boxes, ring main units and distribution transformer cable boxes. In a humid HT cable-entry box it prevents flashover, and it protects against short circuits caused by reptiles, birds and animals, which matters for transformers in densely populated areas.

Each protector consists of an insulating boot, grommets and a plug, all moulded from EPDM rubber that is highly insulating and track resistant. The grommet seats on the bushing, the boot is slid along the cable and pushed onto it, and the lug is bolted to the bushing through the boot's end opening, which is then closed. No heat is used. The protector can be removed and re-used, and it allows direct voltage testing of the cable.

Two shapes are made for 24 kV application voltage: a straight boot (GSTB-1) for cables leaving the bushing in line, and a right-angle boot (GRTB-1) for cables that turn down from a horizontal bushing. One size takes cables from 25 to 400 sq mm, including sector-shaped conductors, and suits 11 kV and 22 kV systems.
