Gala's reusable insulating boot is a right-angle (elbow) boot with a bellows leg, moulded from a modified silicone rubber. It fits over the termination of a PILC or XLPE cable where it is bolted to a switchgear, RMU or transformer bushing, and seals the cable, the cable lug and the bushing together. The rubber gives the flexibility and electrical strength needed between phases and between phase and earth, so the boot protects the connection against flashover caused by rodents and high humidity in the cable box.
The boot is designed to be disconnected and re-used. It can be fitted and removed as often as required, the connection can be voltage tested directly, and it can be energised immediately after the boot is fitted, with no heat or curing time. One size, GRRB-1, has a 44 mm bushing entry, a 20 mm cable entry and leg lengths of 175 mm and 170 mm, and has range-taking capability across cable sizes.
It is used by switchgear and RMU manufacturers, distribution utilities and contractors on indoor terminations where clearances are tight or where connections are opened regularly for testing.
Manufactured by Gala in India. Datasheet and size selection on request.
