Where a cable enters the back of a circular connector, the joint needs mechanical protection, strain relief and a seal against dust and moisture. Gala's heat shrink boots are moulded shapes made for exactly that position, so the protected end is neat and repeatable rather than built up from tube and tape.
Each boot is supplied expanded and shrinks with heat onto the connector body at one end and the cable at the other. Straight boots run in line with the cable; right-angle and L-type boots turn the cable through 90 degrees; P-type boots are made for circular connectors and receptacles. Versions with a lip, or a lip and rib, locate on the connector's groove, and some shapes also take over the job of the outer cable armour at the connector. The inner wall can be pre-coated for sealing and waterproofing.
Boots are offered in three material grades: -10 semi-rigid fluid-resistant modified elastomer (-75 to 150 deg C, installs at 175 deg C), -20 semi-rigid flame-retardant polyolefin (-55 to 135 deg C, installs at 150 deg C) and -30 semi-flexible polyolefin (-42 to 105 deg C, installs at 150 deg C). Three adhesive grades are available: -11 general-purpose hot melt, -22 high-performance hot melt and -33 epoxy. The full part number combines shape, lip and rib, size, material and adhesive.
Typical users are harness makers for defence, rail and public transport, commercial vehicles and industrial equipment. Sizes are chosen from the connector-end and cable-end diameters in the selection charts.
