About Heat Shrink Fibre Optic Closure Sealing Tube and Cable Entry Kit (GSF)

A fibre optic splice closure is only as watertight as its cable entries. Where each cable passes through a port in the closure base, a heat-shrink sleeve is shrunk over the port and the cable sheath to seal the gap against water, moisture and dirt. Gala's INSULTUBE Commercial (code GSF) is a cross-linked polyolefin tube made for that job, lined with hot-melt adhesive that melts during shrinking and bonds to both the port and the cable sheath.

The tube resists weathering, moisture, contamination, UV, ozone, chemicals and solvents, is light and flexible, and gives the cable strain relief at the entry. Eight sizes run from GSF 12/4 to GSF 75/25, where the first figure is the minimum supplied inside diameter and the second the maximum recovered inside diameter, in mm; recovered walls are 2.0 to 3.0 mm.

The same sleeve is supplied as a cable entry sealing kit. Each kit holds one heat-shrinkable tube, two cleaning tissues, one emery tape for roughening the sheath, two aluminium tapes and one branch-off clip for sealing two cables in a single port. Kit tubes use an EVA hot-melt adhesive and carry a temperature-sensitive ink that shows when the tube has reached shrink temperature. Kits are available for round and oval closure ports.

Shrink with a gas torch; the tube recovers at 125 deg C.
