Outdoor and underground CATV connections fail when water gets into the connector. Gala's INSULTUBE Premium (code GBT) is a heat-shrinkable tube designed for the broadband CATV industry to stop that. Slid over a coaxial connector or tap termination and heated, it shrinks to follow the profile of the connector, and its hot-melt adhesive lining melts and seals against the cable sheath.

It gives mechanical protection and strain relief as well as the seal, resists weathering, moisture and contamination, and is light and flexible. Typical uses are insulating underground and aerial connections in CATV plant, CCTV camera connections and control-cable splicing joints.

Eight sizes run from GBT 12/4 to GBT 70/22. The first figure is the minimum supplied inside diameter and the second the maximum recovered inside diameter, in mm; the high shrink ratio lets one tube pass over a bulky connector and still grip the cable. Recovered walls are 2.0 to 2.5 mm. The tube is also available on spools, and custom dimensions, thicknesses, lengths and colours can be made to order. Shrink with a hot-air tool or a soft gas flame, working from the centre outwards.
