About Thin Wall Heat Shrink Tube 2:1 Flame Retardant (GSC / GSC-YG)

GSC is Gala's general-purpose thin-wall heat-shrink tube. It is a flexible cross-linked polyolefin tube with a 2:1 shrink ratio: heated, it recovers to half its supplied diameter and grips wires, terminals and components tightly. The material is flame retardant and self-extinguishing, and GSC is listed by UL as a Recognized Component under file E328193 (600 V, 125 deg C, VW-1 flame rating).

It is used for light-duty wire harnessing in electrical and electronic equipment, insulating and protecting in-line components, strain relief at wire connections, busbar insulation in switchgear, and colour coding of wires, cables, terminals and components. The GSC/YG version carries yellow and green stripes for identifying earth (ground) leads.

Twenty-four sizes run from GSC 1.0/0.5 to GSC 100/50.0; the code gives supplied and recovered inside diameter in mm. Standard colours are black, white, yellow, red, blue, green and yellow/green. Tube is supplied on spools (400 m for the smallest sizes, down to 25 m for the largest) or in boxes of 1.2 m cut lengths.

To choose a size, the supplied diameter must pass over the largest part of the job and the recovered diameter must be smaller than the smallest part. Shrink with a hot-air tool or torch.
