About Transition Joint Kit PILC to XLPE Cable 11 kV to 33 kV - Heat Shrink

When a paper insulated lead covered (PILC) cable run is extended, repaired or partly replaced with XLPE cable, the two constructions have to be joined. The Gala GTJ transition joint does this in one kit: it seals the paper cores against oil migration, matches the different screens, and restores insulation, screen, earth and armour continuity across the joint.

On the PILC side, heat shrinkable oil barrier sleeves seal each paper core and a conducting breakout and high-permittivity void filler handle the crutch; the lead sheath and armour are bonded with plumbing metal and earth braid. On the XLPE side, stress relief mastic and stress control tubing grade the field at the screen cut. Barrier-type inline connectors join the conductors. Over the cores go heat shrinkable insulation tubing, screened dual wall tubing and compression tubing, with tinned copper mesh tape for the screens. A metallic protection case or wraparound joint case (or GI mesh tape), adhesive-lined side sleeves and a centre outer jacketing tube close the joint. Installation aids and instructions are included.

GTJ/1112 covers systems up to 12 kV in six sizes from 3 x 16-35 sq mm to 3 x 630 sq mm. GTJ/2436 covers the 15-24 kV class (8.7/15, 11/11, 12.7/22 kV) and the 36 kV class (19/33 kV).

Gala holds a POWERGRID manufacturer approval and a MECON vendor registration for cable jointing and termination kits up to 33 kV, and an EIL enlistment for kits up to 11 kV.
