When a cable is pulled into a duct, conduit or trench, its end needs both a strong pulling point and a seal so that water does not enter during the pull. The Gala end cap with cable pulling eye does both in one part.

It is a long heat-shrinkable end cap of cross-linked polyolefin with a hot-melt adhesive lining and a steel pulling eye anchored through its closed end. Shrunk onto the cable, it grips the whole cable end, sheath and core together, so the pulling load is spread over the cable rather than concentrated on the conductor. The adhesive seals the end against water and moisture during and after the pull.

The caps are usually fitted in the cable factory before despatch, so the drum arrives ready to pull. They can also be fitted on site with a propane (preferred) or butane torch, with no special tools or crimping.

Five sizes cover cable outside diameters from 28 mm to 112 mm. Each size has a stated minimum pulling strength, from 1400 N for GEC 301L-PE to 4400 N for GEC 701L-PE, so the cap can be matched to the planned pulling load. Typical users are cable manufacturers, cable-laying contractors and utilities installing power and telecommunication cables in ducts.
