On a power cable termination or joint, moisture, dirt and pollution on the outer surface can carry small leakage currents that slowly burn conductive tracks into ordinary insulation. INSULTUBE Non Tracking, Gala code GAT, is made from a non-tracking cross-linked polyolefin compound that resists this surface tracking and erosion, so it is used as the outer insulating tube on cable joints and terminations where long-term surface performance matters.
GSF specifies the material against the ASTM D2303 inclined-plane tracking test, with no tracking, erosion or flame failure at 3.25 kV for 20 minutes.
Two wall grades are offered. Standard GAT has a 2.2 to 2.5 mm recovered wall and comes on 30 m or 15 m spools in eight sizes from 25/8 to 120/45. Heavy-wall GAT(HW) has a 5 mm recovered wall, in lengths up to 1.5 m, in eight sizes from 25/8 to 140/50. The first figure in the code is the minimum inside diameter as supplied, the second the maximum after recovery.
The tube shrinks at 125 deg C and is rated for continuous use from -40 deg C to +100 deg C. Custom dimensions, wall thickness, lengths and colours are available on request.
