About PILC Cable Termination Kit 3 Core 11 kV to 33 kV - Heat Shrink

Many utility networks still run paper insulated lead covered (PILC) cable, and it needs a different termination from XLPE: the impregnating compound must be held back from the new insulation, and the lead sheath must be bonded to the armour. The Gala GPO/E kits do this with heat shrinkable oil barrier sleeves on each core and a belting oil barrier sleeve at the crutch, a plumbed earth connection from lead sheath to armour, and glass cushion tape.

Over that, each core gets a stress control sleeve (and, at 24 and 36 kV, stress control mastic), a non-tracking weather-resistant sleeve, a terminal sleeve and a lug sealed with mastic. Outdoor kits (GPO) carry rain sheds; indoor kits (GPE) are supplied without sheds at 11 kV and with one shed per core at 22 kV. Terminal lugs, earthing material and installation aids are included in every kit.

Three series cover the voltage classes: GPO/E-1112 for 11 kV (16 to 500 sq mm, 600 mm outdoor and 450 mm indoor tails), GPO/E-1524 for screened PILC up to 22 kV (25 to 500 sq mm, 800 and 550 mm tails) and GPO/E-3336 for screened PILC at 33 kV (35 to 400 sq mm).

Gala holds a POWERGRID manufacturer approval and a MECON vendor registration for cable jointing and termination kits up to 33 kV, and an EIL enlistment for kits up to 11 kV.

Installation is with a gas torch, following the instructions in every kit.
