BUSSHEET is Gala's adhesive-coated, non-tracking, cross-linked polyolefin heat-shrinkable sheet for insulating bolted busbar joints. Busbar runs are usually insulated with heat-shrink busbar sleeve, but tees, elbows (L joints) and straight bolted splices have shapes a tube cannot follow. The sheet is cut to the joint, folded over it and shrunk in place, so the joint gets the same insulation as the run.
Installation: the busbars are first insulated with Gala busbar sleeve to within about 25 mm of the joint. The sheet is cut to size, folded adhesive-side-in over the joint, and its flaps are pinched between corner or mending plates held by spring clamps. A propane torch or hot-air gun shrinks it until it conforms over the bolts; the cut should extend at least 100 mm onto each leg before shrinking and overlap the existing insulation by 65 mm after. For a joint that must be opened again, an extra plate is shrunk between the layers and the sheet is punched and closed with nylon fasteners. For a sealed joint, mastic strips go on each leg before shrinking. No special mould is needed.
Two wall grades are made: GMHS (1.5 mm minimum) and GHHS (2.3 mm minimum). Gala's selection chart gives the cut sizes and the number of tee or elbow joints one sheet (up to 1200 mm long) yields for busbars 25 to 150 mm wide. Insulated joints let switchgear and panel builders work with smaller clearances. Void-filling mastic, sealant mastic and a clamp and bracket tool kit are available.
