BUSBOOT Polyolefin is Gala's moulded insulating boot, or shroud, for bolted busbar joints and switchgear connections, made from flexible cross-linked polyolefin in orange-red. Insulating the joints as well as the busbar runs reduces the air clearance a panel needs around them, so switchgear and panel builders can design more compact panels and save on busbar length and sheet metal.
The boot is placed over a tee, elbow or lap joint and closed along its flanges with press-stud buttons, fitted with a plier tool. No heat is used, and the boot can be installed, removed or replaced in a few minutes, as often as maintenance requires. It suits busbar joints of almost any shape, and resists acid, alkali and salt corrosion.
Gala's standard-designs catalogue lists about 160 existing designs for busbars from 40 mm to 280 mm wide, in L-type, T-type and straight shapes (centred and off-centred), L and T boots with a 90 deg riser, and standoff-insulator boots, each with its dimensions. New designs are developed from the customer's drawing. Gala's selection guide sets the minimum wall by system voltage, from 1.0 mm at 12 kV to 2.5 mm at 36 kV.
